Amazing Children’s Books to Read for Black History Month

This year for Black History Month, I wanted to make sure I shared a few of the books we enjoy reading. This isn’t an all inclusive list, it’s just a small percentage of books we own that are written by BIPOC authors.

“Sulwe ” by Lupita Nyong’o

“Ambitious Girl” by Meena Harris

“Hey Black Child” by Useni Eugene Perkins

“Skin Like Mine” by Latashia M Perry

“Beautiful Beautiful Me” by Ashley Sirah

“Hair Love” by Matthew Cherry

Seeing yourself positively represented in literature is essential and so fulfilling. It’s also important for non-BIPOC children to have books that celebrate and foster diversity and inclusion.

Last year, after we moved into our home, I knew I wanted to include a reading corner in the kid’s playroom. Reading has been something I’ve enjoyed since a child so I wanted to make sure I also instilled that love for books into my children.

Let me know if you decide to purchase any of these books or if you have them already. Also share some of your favorites, we’re always looking for more books to add to our collection. If you’d like to purchase the books in our collection they’re linked for you.
